Want to change accountant? It's easier than you think

We know it seems daunting, but don't delay changing accountant any longer. We show you how quick and easy it can be to make the change and finally get the service that you deserve and, above all, are paying for.

There are many reasons you might be looking for a new accountant. The most common we hear from our clients are…

Poor service – they don’t return your calls or emails in time, they’re not proactive, they miss deadlines.

No dedicated point of contact – you get passed around, no-one knows your business matters, leading to errors.

Poor advice – they are not up to date with recent changes.

Retirement – your accountant is downsizing or retiring.

Even so, lots of businesses delay changing accountant because they don’t have the time to make the move or they just don’t know how to go about it.

It’s easier than you think, here is our guide to transferring your business to a new accountant in 4 quick and easy steps:

Step 1

Contact a couple of local accountants, most offer free initial consultations, to establish who would be good fit for you and your business.

Step 2

Once you’ve decided, let your current accountant know that you are moving away. An email or call will be enough, make sure you include:

  • confirmation of the work you are expecting them to do before leaving, eg work you have paid for already;

  • confirmation that they will provide any information requested by the new accountant – giving details of who will be contacting them.

Step 3

If you choose us, we will take care of the rest, making the formalities as painless as possible.

  • We’ll send you a breakdown of our services along with our terms and conditions by email. You can look over these and sign the forms online by e-signature.

  • At this time, you will also create an account on our online portal where all your confidential paperwork will be kept.

  • If we can’t meet you in person we will ask you to upload ID documents for our anti money laundering checks.

  • We will apply for authorisation to act as your agent with HMRC, allowing us to speak to them on your behalf. This can be done online or by a paper form that you will need to sign.

Step 4

We will contact your previous accountant to ask for professional clearance and any handover information.
